More than a building

Many people believe that places hold memories and that human experiences leave traces, even if invisible. For nearly 70 years, students at Cherokee High School have walked the same halls- filling the buildings with teenage laughter, school achievements, and future dreams. As we prepare to move into the new building, this final year makes every tradition feel more special.

As a junior at Cherokee, I’m aware of just how much this place means to not just me, but to fellow students, teachers, and people in our community. Like the students who came before us, we’re adding to a legacy that will be remembered long after we leave this building.

In my three years here, I’ve grown enough to see that Cherokee is not just a set of walls and homework assignments, but a place where friendships are built and young adults start finding their place in the world. I’m one of the 3000+ students that call this school home, and despite the large student population, Cherokee has helped me find my voice, explore a passion, and build confidence that will guide me into the next chapter. Beyond academics, I’ve loved being part of Cherokee’s traditions and finding ways that I can get involved on my own. I’ve spent time broadcasting, sharing school events with the community, and cheering on our football team under the Friday night lights. Navigating the crowded hallways between Cherokee Main and Cherokee North used to feel nerve-wracking as a freshman, but now it feels like a normal part of my daily routine.

I truly love being a student here and know that I, along with all of my fellow classmates, am part of a family that is leaving behind its history to step forward into a future of new memories and possibilities. We will fill the new halls of Cherokee High with laughter and talks of future ambitions, passing on our own experiences to the next generation.
